I tried my first macaron in Costa Rica - does that count? They were huge compared to the normal bite-size looking morsels. The texture and flavor were intriguing and left me wanting more. From a travel magazines I found MadMac sells macarons right out of NYC, but I've been holding out for an authentic French macaron until I saw Florian Bellanger is co-owner and chef of MadMac. Anyone watch Cupcake Wars on the Food Network? He's one of the judges. Now I definitely want to try them but there's just something unsettling about waiting for them via mail. I much rather walk into a bakery and buy a box/bag of them. Surely the travel time will hamper the fresh quality right? Hmm, I might just wait a little longer until I go to Paris.
